Heroes of might and magic v videos series#
Ubisoft has bought the rights and instead continuing the main series, decided to produce the Heroes series mostly, sometimes however releasing spin-offs of other genres, such as even first-person shooters, under the same world, often developed by third-party studios. Unfortunately, New World Computing were unable to sell enough copies of the forth Heroes chapter and had to close its doors in 2003. In the second half of 1990's, the "Heroes" sub-franchise, in a genre of turn-based strategy, based on making castles and fighting with enemy heroes and units, has gained a lot of fame, eventually becoming more financially successful than even the main numerical series, especially the Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3.

The tenth chapter, released 12 years after that, was using again cell-based movements and turn-based fighting. The remaining main chapters but the very last one were sharing nearly the same formula, but after the release of the ninth one, due to the many finansial troubles, its developer, New World Computing, went bankrupt. The 6th installement, coming long time after the 5th one, changed its graphical style from pixelated graphics to the "realistic" one, has aquired open world not based on cells, an option of real-time walking and fighting, and digital music. While that series has music from the very first installement, until the third chapter there was no true background music, only fanfares and jingles.

While always having a fantasy style, all main chapters but the tenth had the same scenario hook: there are actually a lot of worlds, and there are aliens and spaceships who often are traveling between them, however being usually persieved as deities, gods and other kind of supernatural creatures. Their gameplay was based on: walking through the nearly borderless world (however it was divided by the square cells and thus the process was turn-based), and turn-based fighting, tieing to be Dungeons & Dragons-alike. Originally, it came as the series of Classic RPG's. Might and Magic is one of the most famous RPG series.
